Ohio Athletic Conference names four winter sports student-athletes Academic All-OAC
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, March 5, 2013 - The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that four Muskingum University winter sports student-athletes were named to the 2013 Winter Academic All-OAC team.
For men's basketball, junior guard Phil Ellis was honored. Ellis, a business major, played in 25 games and averaged 5.4 points ad 2.3 rebounds per outing.
For women's basketball, senior guard Jendy Weppler, junior guard Tori Jarrett and junior forward Ashlee Alsept were honored. Weppler, a molecular biology/chemistry major, started every game and averaged 6.6 point and 3.3 rebounds per game. She also notched a team-high 47 steals. Jarrett, a health education/health and fitness major, averaged 9.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per outing. Jarrett hit a team-high 54 three-pointers. Alsept, a special education major, saw action in 24 games and averaged 2.1 points per contest.
For student-athletes to be academically honored by the OAC they must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point-average of at least 3.5.
