Ohio Athletic Conference names nine fall sports student-athletes Academic All-OAC
NEW CONCORD, OHIO, December 4, 2012 -The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced that nine Muskingum University fall sports student-athletes were named to the 2012 Fall Academic All-OAC team.
For football, senior offensive lineman Michael Gibbs and senior defensive lineman Steve Stooksbury were honored. Gibbs, a nursing major, helped anchor the offensive line. Stooksbury, a special education major who was also named Second Team All-OAC, ranked third on the team with 39 tackles and had 2.5 tackles for loss.
For volleyball, junior outside hitter Hanna Rose and junior libero Kim Seitter were recognized. Rose, an education major who was named All-OAC Honorable Mention, led the Muskie net attack with 366 kills, which ranked first in the OAC at the end of the regular season. Rose also registered 356 digs, 32 blocks and 18 service aces. Seitter, an education major, led the team with 648 digs.
For women’s soccer, junior defender Sophia Liva was honored. Liva, a chemistry major, started in 17 games and logged three shots.
For men’s soccer, sophomore midfielder Cameron Godfrey, sophomore midfielder Sean Lally, senior midfielder Mike Romis and junior defender Brock Yackey were recognized. Godfrey, a chemistry major, played in two games. Lally, an engineering major, played in 13 games with four shots. Romis, a nursing major, saw action in 11 contests with two shots. Yackey, an interdisciplinary major, played in 12 games with five starts.
For student-athletes to be academically honored by the OAC they must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point-average of at least 3.5.
