William Sherry, '13

Will Sherry, '13William Sherry, ’13, graduated with his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and immediately began working at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in nearby Zanesville, Ohio. Soon after, Sherry began applying to graduate programs in order to become a nurse practitioner. He said, “I knew from the get-go I wanted to be the once in charge…the one putting the orders in…the one managing the patient’s treatment regimen. […] Something inside me continuously drove me forward.”

Sherry enrolled in the University of South Alabama’s BSN to DNP (Doctor of Nursing Practice) graduate program with an emphasis in family practice. In the midst of schooling and clinical rotations, he continued working full-time as an RN.

Sherry now works as a hospitalist for an organization called Team Health. He is an internal medicine specialist who manages the care for those admitted to the hospital. He explains, “I admit, diagnose, treat and discharge patients within the hospital setting.” He is currently being leased to Genesis Hospital from Team Health.

“Every day is a new adventure. I love what I do…but more importantly, I feel as if I am fulfilling my calling,” Sherry says of his job as a hospitalist.

Sherry came to Muskingum because his girlfriend at the time (now wife) convinced him that Muskingum’s nursing program was worth considering. He decided to attend and speaks highly of his experience, especially in the nursing program. He cites the “love, support and intense desire” of the nursing faculty to see him flourish as one of the primary factors of his success. “If I can become half the nurse any of them are, I will consider my life successful.”
