Hands-on experiences like internships are gaining more and more emphasis as employers see the value in hiring graduates who have gone above and beyond to gain experience in their field. Nathan Duff, an engineering science major who will graduate in December, is one such student.
Nathan is currently an intern in the Operations Department at Colgate-Palmolive in Cambridge, Ohio. He explains, “We have been focusing on optimizing production by reducing unplanned downtime and by optimizing the working conditions. I have been learning a lot about teamwork in the workplace and the production process.”
Nathan, who chose Muskingum because of the combination of the engineering program, opportunities to participate in athletics, and the close-knit feel of the campus, is very involved as a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, men’s golf team, and several academic honor societies. He has appreciated that small class sizes have allowed his professors to get to know him. “Professors…are very generous when it comes to helping with anything from homework questions to finding an internship or job.”
