Landel Shakespeare, '13

Landel Shakespeare, '13Landel Shakespeare, ’13, came to Muskingum from Cleveland, Ohio and majored in sociology. When he visited (upon the recommendation of a friend, mentor, and Muskie alum), he fell in love with the campus.

Following graduation, Shakespeare found a job working with at-risk youth in Cleveland. He now works for The Centers for Families and Children and is attending graduate school at Case Western Reserve University.

When asked how his experiences at Muskingum have aided in his success, Shakespeare responded, “I believe that Muskingum saved my life; coming from the inner city, a lot of young men do not go to college. Muskingum gave me the opportunity to meet all types of different people and make great connections that will last for a life time. Muskingum taught me how to work hard and fight for what you want, especially when it comes in the classroom.”

Shakespeare credits his advisor, sociology professor Sandra Schroer, with challenging him in the classroom and encouraging him to pursue graduate studies. His is also grateful to the Student Life staff for selecting him to be a Resident Assistant, which helped to develop his leadership skills.
