Lamar Dowling, '15
This post was originally published on November 14, 2016.
Lamar Dowling graduated in 2015 with a double major in psychology and sociology, as well as a German minor.
Since graduating, Dowling has been pursuing his Master’s in Social Work at Ohio University. He is also preparing to present the research he did as a senior at Muskingum. He will be presenting his research on moral injury (damage done to one’s moral compass) in veterans who served in wars between World War II and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan at the Gerontological Society of America’s national conference in New Orleans this fall.
For Dowling, developing and researching his own project while at Muskingum was a huge factor in his success since graduating. He is thankful he had the opportunity to develop his own project, rather than being assigned something by a faculty member – although he is quick to credit his faculty members with being incredibly supportive during his research experience.
Dowling was a member of Phi Kappa Psi as a Muskie, even though joining a fraternity wasn’t something he’d anticipated being a part of his college experience. He appreciates his fraternity’s emphasis on academic achievement and community service.
