Kevin Tavenner, '15

Kevin Tavenner, '15Kevin Tavenner ’15 was a fourth-generation Muskie from Ashville, Ohio who chose Muskingum because “it felt like home” and reminded him of his hometown.

After graduating with a degree in criminal justice and sociology, Tavenner went to work as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) for the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) at John Glenn Columbus International Airport. Although he began as a part-time employee, he became full-time after less than a year with the TSA.

Tavenner recently received a promotion to Lead TSO and now has experience working in many different aspects of the job. He has worked as a dual-function officer, which means he can work at both passenger and baggage screening checkpoints. He has worked as a member of both the Insider Threat Team and the Safety Action Team, in addition to serving as a mentor and coach for new trainees.

Because he worked two jobs during his undergraduate years, Tavenner’s years at Muskingum taught him how to balance his time, multitask and prioritize his work. Tavenner said that it was with the help of his professors, he “learned a lot […] about life and what I needed to do in order to be successful, not only in school but in life as a whole.”
