Demetrius Bailey, '12

Demetrius Bailey, '12“The experience you get from being a student athlete helps with a lot of things in life,” says Demetrius Bailey ’12. “Time management, how to function with little to no sleep, and how to make yourself the best you that you can be. There were a lot of things that I liked as an athlete and I use that to help with the way I coach. And there were some things I strongly disagreed with that I try to stay away from, but understanding the athletes, there are some who might need that kind of coaching to push them to their full potential.”

Bailey, who came to Muskingum from Buffalo, New York to compete in football and track and field, is now the Head Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Coach at Franklin College in Indiana. He previously served as the interim Head Cross Country and Track Coach, and before that he interned with both Football and Track & Field.

Bailey majored in Physical Education at Muskingum and, when asked what experience he never anticipated having at Muskingum, he said, “Just going to college was one of the biggest things I did not anticipate ever happening to me.” He went on to say, “A lot of my experiences came from [my participation in] athletics. […] Breaking the school triple jump record and going to nationals was an unbelievable experience.”

Bailey also adds, “I am […] thankful for Muskingum giving me a chance. I love the friends that I made and the coaches & professors that I had in my corner.”
