The Muskingum University teacher education program, in partnership with the larger educational community, develops professional educators who demonstrate effective entry-year performance in meeting the challenges of teaching all students. The program offers five majors and 23 licensure options at the undergraduate level.

Mission:
The mission of the Muskingum University Undergraduate Teacher Preparation Program, the Graduate Initial Teacher Preparation Program, the Advanced Teacher Preparation Program, and the Other School Professional Preparation Program is to develop teacher and educational leaders who encourage, equip, and empower all students.
The philosophy and purpose that the Undergraduate Initial Teacher Preparation Program and Graduate Initial Teacher Preparation Program use to articulate this mission closely align with the University’s mission statement. The philosophy is grounded in the commitment to help candidates develop intellectually, ethically socially, and physically. The purpose of the program is to nurture candidates into becoming educators who in turn nurture their students to their fullest potential by (1) encouraging their efforts, increasing motivation; (2) equipping them with the knowledge and skills they need in order to be successful, professionally and personally; and (3) empowering them to become active participants their own professions, families, and communities.

NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education)
 Muskingum's education program has NCATE accreditation, the education profession's "seal of approval." This means that the program meets or exceeds national professional standards for the preparation of teachers and other school specialists, and that prospective education majors can be sure that their education, experience and training will be up-to-date, relevant, and research-based, and will prepare them well for licensing examinations.
