A symbolic new landmark -- a pedestrian bridge intersecting the top
floor of the Walter K. Chess Center -- will join the east and west
residential hills and carry students to the doors of the airy,
welcoming building. The 23,000-square-foot structure will follow
the contours of its wooded hillside setting so that natural beauty
will enhance the experience of using the Center and uplift everyone
who enters.
Constructed of brick, masonry, and glass, and roofed with Spanish
clay tile, the new gathering place will blend comfortably with
the architecture of Muskingum's historic campus. Architects are

Bialosky and Partners, designers of Philip and Betsey Caldwell Hall.
"The new Walter K. Chess Center is a very worthwhile investment in
Muskingum's future and in the quality of every student's experience,"
believes Board Chair Hal Burlingame '62. 'The entire Muskingum
community is grateful to the donors who are making possible such
a needed and important facility."
